Suspect in Custody After Deadly Mass Shooting at Florida State University; 2 Killed, 5 Injured #26

The University issued a “dangerous situation” alert at 12 p.m. ET

A suspect is in custody following a deadly shooting at Florida State University in Tallahassee, local authorities tell PEOPLE.

A Tallahassee police spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE that a suspect, identified as 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, had been taken in custody. The Florida State University Police Department is in charge of the investigation, the Leon County Sheriff’s Department tells PEOPLE.

Two people were killed and five others were injured by gunfire, FSU Police Chief Jason Trumbower said at a news conference. The shooter was “neutralized” and taken to hospital as well.

CNN reports that a handgun was found on the person taken into custody, citing a law enforcement official. The official reportedly said a shotgun was found in the school’s student union and another gun was found in the person’s car.

The university’s emergency alert system announced at about 12 p.m. ET that there was an active shooter on campus, noting a “dangerous situation” alert.

Further information about the arrest, such as the identity of the shooter or their connection to the campus, was not immediately available.
